Could something akin to eBay auctions be the next stop for new-home builders facing a glut of unsold properties? Inland builders in recent months have been cutting prices and throwing in extras such as free swimming pools to move their new houses in a slowing market. And recently, joining a national trend, some are finding success with public auctions, traditionally seen more as a way to sell artwork or rare antiques. Some of those builders are incorporating online elements into their auctions, giving Web shoppers a chance to bid in real time against the on-premises participants. .
May meeting set on bus-route bids
Facing dozens of questions about its bidding process for 29 contract bus routes, the Greater Clark County School Board voted unanimously yesterday to discuss the matter at a meeting May 1. "It was a total surprise," board Chairman Robbie Valentine said of the calls that the system has received since last week about the Jeffersonville, Charlestown and New Washington routes. They are operated by contract drivers who own their buses rather than by district employees driving system-owned vehicles. .
County Commissioners to meet Monday
Grayson County commissioners plan to continue to discuss Municipal Utility Districts Monday. Three items on the court's agenda for Monday concern the MUDs going in near Gunter.Commissioners will consider approving an agreement between the county and the MUDs. Part of the agreement will include requirements from the Water Control Improvement Districts that the MUDs will cover the cost of off-site repairs caused by construction equipment used in the construction of the MUDs and WCID infrastructure. Commissioners will also consider passing a resolution in support of the MUDs and WCID.Additionally, commissioners will consider authorizing an agreement between Grayson County and Petitt and Associates for surveying work on the proposed tollway alignment between FM 902 and Old Scoggins Road at its intersection with SH 289.A proclamation about the uninsured in Texas will also be considered by commissioners.In addition, commissioners will consider a resolution for the Silver Alert for missing senior citizens much like an Amber alert system for children.
City hears two bids for MSA site
Indianapolis - Two local development teams are eager to build on the old Market Square Arena site in downtown Indianapolis. The city reopened the bidding process after a development team chosen three years ago failed to get the necessary financing in place. As a result the two, two-acre parcels have remained gravel parking lots since Market Square Arena was imploded nearly six years ago.
Wednesday afternoon, the Metropolitan Development Commission revealed the teams now vying for the project.
One is MarketAbility Partners, which includes Mansur Real Estate, Lauth Property Group, Hearthview Residential and Venture Real Estate. It proposes a $150 million mixed-use development including housing, office space, retail and a Target store.
Beds firm bids for sporting glory
A Bedfordshire firm which has worked to avoid flooding at some of the worlds most prestigious sporting venues is in the running for ground-breaking contracts at the 30th Olympic Games in London and the first football World Cup to be held in Africa. .
